The Media Capital of the World
Located north of Los Angeles, Burbank is the largest city in the San Fernando Valley and home to many of the top names in the U.S. movie and television world. Burbank saw its greatest period of growth during WWII because of the large Lockheed facility located here. Lockheed's Skunk Works has produced many of the U.S.'s most secret and technologically advanced aircraft including the SR-71 Blackbird, U-2, and the F-117 stealth jet. For many years the defense industry was the largest employer in the area, but due to the downsizing that occurred after the end of the Cold War.
The entertainment industry has recently overtaken defense as the biggest sector of the economy. The city is the home to almost every major entertainment company in the country and earns much of the credit that is given to Hollywood. Television networks ABC and NBC are both headquartered in Burbank as well as the Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Dick Clark Production. Major motion picture companies like Warner Brothers and Walt Disney call the city home and Burbank is located within a short drive of Paramount and Universal Studios.
Burbank is an upper middle class city that is home to many entertainment executives and is one of the safest cities in LA County. People love living here because of the small town feel that cannot be found in the neighboring cities. The city has a relatively large airport named after comedian Bob Hope that has daily flights to almost every major U.S. city. The city is also well connected to the rest of California by Highways 5 and 101 which are the two major interstate highways in the state. The city has an Amtrak station that can connect passengers, via Union Station, to points all throughout the United States.

Hollywood is not a city but rather an area of Los Angeles and has no local government. The city has selected a ceremonial mayor to represent the “city” at public events. When discussing Burbank, Hollywood will always come up in the conversation. Burbank’s entertainment industry has spawned from Hollywood and the city still maintains many film industry support companies such as lighting, special effects, and post-production companies.
The city is home to many of the most famous Southern Californian landmarks like the Hollywood sign located atop Mount Lee that overlooks Los Angles and the Hollywood walk of fame. Many movies premiere in Hollywood and the city is the host of the Academy Awards, the most famous awards show in the world.
Hollywood is also known for its Sunset Strip. The Strip attracts many visitors each night who come to dine at the fine restaurants and enjoy the concerts and clubs that are available. Another large concert venue is the world famous Hollywood Bowl that hosts the best musicians and a well respected concert hall among classical music enthusiasts.
