Honolulu is trying to develop a more robust economy that isn’t dependant on the tourist industry. The city’s geographic location between the United States and Asia should help the city attract more international businesses. There are many governmental and public-private organizations that are working hard to achieve this goal.
The Office of Economic Development is local governmental organization that is working to consolidate government efforts to improve the economy in order to make them more easily accessible to local businesses. Via the Honolulu Economic Development Summit, the OED is educating local and perspective businesses on how to easily access programs designed to grow and attract small and large companies. The OED is also offering an online Business Resource Center that will facilitate usage.
The OED offers many programs such as consultations, organizing efforts to make the city more business friendly, international networking, and promoting Honolulu as a great place to do business. Through these programs, the OED should have little problem leading Honolulu’s economy into the future.
