Search Engine Marketing In Jersey City

Gateway to Manhattan

Jersey city is the second most populous city in New Jersey and the county seat of Hudson County. The city boomed in the early 1900’s when the city was the major port of entry in the area and the terminus for many national rail systems including the Pennsylvania Railroad until tunnels allowed rail lines to bypass Jersey City and travel directly to Penn Station. The early 1900’s also saw a huge influx of Italian and Irish immigrants who came to work in the city’s growing shipping and manufacturing industries. The city earned a reputation for crime and corruption during the middle of the century largely because of the powerful mayor Frank Hague who was known for strong-arming other local and national politicians. Corruption problems persisted until the 1980’s and this, along with urban decline and civil unrest, caused many of the city’s upper and middle-class residents to flee to the suburbs.

TThe city is in the midst of a renaissance fueled by a urban renewal project that is opening up buildings that were once deserted. The city has a large shipping and manufacturing industry upon which it can build upon. The city has over 11 miles of waterfront and has an impressive rail infrastructure that has kept the shipping industry alive and growing. The city is also in a prime location directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan. After the 9/11 attacks, many businesses once located in Manhattan have relocated office space to Jersey City including Charles Schwab, Chase Manhattan, and Merrill Lynch. Manufacturing is another key economic sector and the city produces many goods such as chemicals, petroleum products, electrical goods, and textiles.

The city is also well connected to New York and the rest of the East Coast. The city has three major highways, the Jersey Turnpike, and the Holland Tunnel which connects Jersey City with Manhattan via Interstate 78. There are also many regional rail lines that can transport passengers to Pennsylvania, New York, and New England. There are also a number of Ferries that run from the waterfront to the Manhattan Financial District.

Jersey City is in the process of rehabilitating some of its more run down commercial districts. Although the city has had much progress in refurbishing much of the downtown area and the waterfront, there still is much unused commercial capacity.

The Journal Square area of the city is one of the target areas for continued improvement. The Journal Square Restoration Corporation and the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation have been hard at work organizing the future of this area. By offering incentives such as differed property taxes, both organizations have given Journal Square new hope in attracting commerce and jobs.

Some of the other unused commercial areas have been transformed in to impressive residential districts that have attracted many highly paid professionals from Manhattan who wish to invest in a cheaper housing market. Port Liberte was once a highly industrial area until 1990 when the area was developed into an upscale residential area. Newport and Exchange Place are other waterfront areas that have been successfully redeveloped into an attractive residential area with modern office space.
