Raleigh is the county seat of Wake County, capital of North Carolina, and the second most populous city in the state. North Carolina State University is one of the top research institutions and is the focal research institution in the North Carolina State University system. NC State specialized in agriculture, design, and engineering. Other notable universities in the area include Duke University and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. UNC Chapel Hill offers 71 bachelors, 110 master’s and 77 doctorial programs and Duke University is home to the Pratt School of Engineering, Duke Medical School, and the Fuqua School of Business. In addition to the three university’s academic strength, the schools are also top performers in college athletics. All three are routinely ranked in the top twenty five in men’s and women’s basketball and they excel in other areas as well, such as men’s soccer.
