The city of Des Moines is home to a thriving small business community and offers many incentives to small and large businesses alike.
The Iowa Corporate Income Tax is levied solely on sales within the state of Iowa, therefore property, payroll, and out of state sales are not taxed. If you have no sales within the state you would pay no income tax. There is also no taxes, including sales taxes, on new and existing equipment and machinery used for manufacturing purposes and electricity and gas used for manufacturing is also tax free.
Other advantages include funding for road and rail construction through the Iowa Department of Transportation, and tax credits for companies that create 50 jobs or have made $10 million dollars in infrastructure improvements.
Furthermore, the Iowa New Jobs Training Program provides funds for screening and assessment of new employees, on-the-job training reimbursement, and training facilities and supplies. Businesses using this program may also qualify for the New Jobs Tax Credit as well. The credit, per employee, in 2006 was $1,278. |
