Nearby Fullerton is another notable city in Orange County. Like Anaheim, Fullerton has deep roots in the agricultural economy of early Orange County. Val Vita Foods, now part of ConAgra and once the largest food processing company in the U.S., was founded as a small juice company here in Fullerton. The city also saw a small boom in the early 1900’s when oil was discovered but the boom fizzled out in before the start of the Great Depression. The city, although once it was rural, has become a giant suburb of the Los Angeles metropolis and has many housing tracks and strip malls.
The city is also home to California State University at Fullerton which is one of the best colleges in Orange County. The university has been a great help to the local economy and employs many area residents. Fullerton College is a two year college that channels many undergraduates to CSUF via a cooperative transfer program. Fullerton College also trains many of the city’s health care support workers and other professionals. |
