The loss of many steel mills and manufacturing jobs has forced Buffalo to revitalize the local economy. The city has been successful in this mission and has developed a strong biotechnology sector. City groups such as the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation have been working hard to improve the economy and create good paying jobs for the city’s residents.
The BERC is a public-private partnership that works to secure federal and state dollars for use in economic development. A non-profit organization, BERC is elegible to receive HUD and EDA funds designated for local economic development organizations. BERC employs many highly skilled employees that work hard at their mission and enjoy close relationships with the local, state, and federal governments. Commercial banks also work closely with BERC.
Their goal of creating and maintaining small businesses and thriving commercial districts is producing results as seen by the rising employment rates and new industries being developed in Buffalo. |
