Fort Wayne is seeing expansions of many of the city’s light manufacturing companies. Three of the city’s major employers are expanding their operations. Apollo Design Technology, Inc., Fort Wayne Plastics, Inc., and WaterFurnace International have all made investments into their infrastructure and will qualify for tax abatements and other incentives offered to local businesses who create new jobs in targeted sectors.
The tax abatements offered are given for the purchase of new equipment for manufacturing, research and development, logistical distribution, and information technology. The economic sectors that are targeted for tax abatements are distribution, manufacturing, services, and warehousing. Retail and residential facilities are not eligible for tax abatements unless they are located in designated areas called Economic Revitalization Areas. These areas are considered unable to achieve normal development without government assistance due to the character of occupancy, age, or obsolescence. |
