Dallas' Other Half
Located just west of Dallas, Fort Worth is a major part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. Also referred to as the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, the area is one of the most economically prosperous regions in the country. The city is the fifth largest in the state and is on the West Fork of the Trinity River.

The history of the city's economy is closely tied to the Old West. Fort Worth was a key rail access point for cattle drives along the Chisholm Trail. The city is a ranching and stockyard center and has historically been used as the waypoint for Texas cattle traveling to the Northern States. The city is known as "Cowtown" and "Where the West Begins " and has a rich history full of stories of the Old West. The city has also greatly benefited from oil discoveries in the area. Livestock and transportation are still important parts of the economy, but things have greatly changed during the years. The local economy has benefited from the high technology companies located in the Dallas area. The city is home to many large companies such as Alcon, American Airlines, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation, and Radio Shack. There is also a Miller Brewery and large operations centers for Motorola, Bell Helicopter, and Lockheed Martin.

Entertainment in Fort Worth centers largely on its Old Western history. There are many rodeos and western themed attractions located in the city. At the Will Rogers Memorial Center visitors can view western memorabilia and shows including the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is the only museum in the world dedicated to notable women of the Old West. The Fort Worth Stockyards give visitors a taste of the historic cattle drives and action of the Chisholm Trail. The area also hosts the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. The history of the Old West is not all Fort Worth has to offer. In the downtown, visitors will find Sundance Square, named after the Sundance Kid, is an entertainment center with shopping, restaurants, and interesting architecture and landscaping. The Fort Worth Water Gardens is a relaxing oasis for downtown visitors.
