Long Beach City
Situated in southern Los Angeles County, and even though it is the fifth largest city in the state, Long Beach is somewhat dwarfed by nearby Los Angeles. In the early 1900's, Long Beach became well know as vacationers form Los Angeles began to use the city as a resort. Soon the city would grow as the Port of Long Beach emerged as one of the busiest ports in the world. Serviced by several major highways and point of entry for millions of tons of cargo, more people and goods move through than almost any city in the world. The Port of Long Beach is the second busiest port in the world and has an impressive transportation infrastructure of railways and highways to quickly move goods form the Pacific Rim to points all over the U.S.

Long Beach's economy is diverse. Based on a number of industries like shipping, telecommunications, and aerospace; the economy is prosperous and ready for the future. Boeing is a large area employer and has attracted many other smaller aerospace companies to the area. Other companies with large operations in the area include The Bragg Company producers of industrial shipping equipment, and Verizon. Another notable area company is TABC, Inc. a subsidiary of Toyota making truck beds and catalytic converters.

Long Beach also has a major health industry, with four major hospitals including a large Veterans Administration Hospital. The California State University system is headquartered in Long Beach along with the California State University, Long Beach.

The city is home to the Long Beach Grand Prix. Some of the city streets are closed off to create the racetrack where the best Formula One teams come once a year to compete. The track is also used for various other races throughout the week including Trans Am and Toyota Atlantic races.

There are many art museums, performance art companies, and educational institutions in the city. The Long Beach Museum of Art, Museum of Latin American Art, and the International Sculpture Symposium all offer a diverse selection of artwork that will surely delight any art enthusiast. Other cultural opportunities include the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra and the Long Beach Aquarium.
