Chino is another notable city in San Bernardino County. The city has a population of just under 70,000, and is a major dairy farming city in southeastern California. The city is also well because of the large state prison located here, the California Institution for Men.
In the last 30 years the city has become a large middle-class suburb for workers in the other major Inland Empire cities of San Bernardino, Riverside, and Ontario. Chino has an unfounded reputation for being a high crime area. The city has a below average property crime rate and is close to the national average for other types of crime. The city also has a very low poverty rate with just 6% of area families living under the poverty line. The city is also the home of Planes of Fame, an air museum where visitors can view all types of modern and historical aircraft. |
