Goleta is a major part of the local economy and housing market. Many of those that work in Santa Barbara live in Goleta due to the slightly less expensive housing market and larger residential areas.
The University of California Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Airport are both located in Goleta making the city home to two of the largest and most important institutions in the area. Goleta is also home to many high technology firms including Raytheon and Cisco Systems. There are also a number of aerospace companies that base their business around the Santa Barbara Airport. Many oil companies and oil support companies service the numerous oil platforms located just off the coast, three of which are owned and operated by ExxonMobil.
Shoppers from all around Santa Barbara County come to Goleta to shop at the larger stores that are too big to be accommodated in nearby Santa Barbara. K-Mart, Costco, Sportsmart, and Home Depot are just of the few “big-box” stores that are located at Goleta’s Camino Real Marketplace. |
