Santa Maria is the second largest city in Santa Barbara County, and due to an 8% growth rate the city will soon overtake Santa Barbara. The city has also been rated in the top five in the nation according to Frommer’s which ranks cities according to economy, cost of living, education, crime, transportation, and culture. The city is well serviced by a variety of transportation options. Highway 101 and Highway 1 offer congestion free ground transportation to all parts of California north and south including Los Angles and San Francisco. The Santa Maria Municipal Airport offers flights to Los Angeles Airport many times per day giving residents air travel options to any part of the world.

Santa Maria also attracts shoppers from the smaller outlying communities that come to shop at the city’s wide array of department stores and car dealerships. The city is also constructing a $28 million dollar library that will be able to service residents from the near-by agricultural communities. The library will become the heart of a new downtown Santa Maria.
