Port Hueneme (pronounced "Wy-nee'mee") is a seaside community in Ventura County, California. Port Hueneme is located 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 40 miles south of Santa Barbara. The City has a population of 22,388.

Incorporated in 1948, Port Hueneme has a 5-member City Council which functions as the policy making governmental body. The five individuals serve staggered four-year terms in office, with the Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem being selected by the City Council each year. City services are structured around eight departments: City Administration, Community Development, Finance, Housing and Facilities Maintenance, Police Department, Public Works, Recreation and Community Services, and Utility Services.

Port Hueneme has its own hometown police force of 21 sworn officials-one of only five cities in the county with its own police department. With a service area of less than five square miles, response time is generally within five minutes. Crimes per capita are among the lowest in the county.

Hueneme Elementary School District is nationally recognized for its "smart classrooms", and the city's percentage of high school graduates outpaces the County and State. Both Charles Blackstock School and E.O. Green Jr. High have won the Blue Ribbon award, the highest federal honor bestowed on public schools. Off-campus extensions of the California University and State University systems, and a local community college, are also within a 20-minute drive of Port Hueneme.
