You may encounter an error code
Error code: 0x80070043
The network name cannot be found.
I believe it has something to do with my vpn connection.

Error code 0x80070043 indicates that the network name you are trying to access cannot be found. This can be caused by several factors, including VPN connection issues. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and fix the problem:

Check the NAS device and network connection:
Ensure your NAS device is powered on, connected to the network, and its network sharing settings are configured correctly. Also, confirm that your computer is connected to the same network as the NAS device.

Check the VPN connection:
If you're using a VPN connection, it might be causing issues with accessing your local network resources. Try temporarily disconnecting from the VPN and then attempt to map the NAS drive again. If this resolves the issue, you may need to adjust your VPN settings to allow access to local network resources.

Verify the network path:
Make sure you're using the correct network path when mapping the NAS drive. The network path should be in the format \\NAS-device-name\shared-folder. You can also try using the NAS device's IP address instead of its name, like \\192.168.1.100\shared-folder (replace with your NAS device's actual IP address).

Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP:
This setting might help in resolving the error if the issue is related to the network discovery.
a. Press Windows key + X and select "Network Connections."
b. Right-click on your network adapter (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) and click on "Properties."
c. In the "Properties" window, locate "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click on "Properties."
d. Click on the "Advanced" button.
e. Go to the "WINS" tab and select "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP."
f. Click "OK" on all open windows to save the changes.
g. Restart your computer and try mapping the NAS drive again.

Check your firewall and antivirus settings:
Security software can sometimes block access to network resources. Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus, then try mapping the NAS drive again. If this resolves the issue, you'll need to adjust the settings in your security software to allow access to the NAS device.

Restart the "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" services:
a. Press Windows key + R, type "services.msc" and press Enter.
b. In the "Services" window, locate "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication."
c. Right-click on each service and select "Restart." If the service is not running, click "Start."

After trying these steps, attempt to map the NAS drive again. If the issue persists, there might be other underlying network or configuration problems that require further troubleshooting.

To map your NAS drive in Windows 11, follow these steps:

Make sure your NAS device is connected to the same network as your computer and powered on.

Press the Windows key + E to open File Explorer.

Go to This PC

In the File Explorer window, click on the three-dot button (ellipsis) located in the upper right corner. This will open a drop-down menu.

From the drop-down menu, click on "Map network drive."

In the "Map Network Drive" window, select a preferred drive letter from the "Drive" dropdown menu. This letter will be used to access the shared location on your NAS device.

Next to the "Folder" field, click on "Browse." This will open the "Browse for Folder" window.

Navigate through your network and locate your NAS device. Expand its contents to find the shared folder you want to map.

You can also enter it's directory if you are in the network on-site, or enter the IP Address if you are conneted through a VPN

Select the desired shared folder and click on "OK."

Check the box "Reconnect at sign-in" to ensure that the mapped drive reconnects automatically each time you start Windows.

If you need to use different credentials to access the shared folder on your NAS, check the box "Connect using different credentials."

Click on "Finish."

Your NAS drive should now be mapped in Windows 11 and will appear as a network drive with the chosen letter in the File Explorer. You can access the shared folder on your NAS by clicking on the mapped drive.
